Here are 3 pictures of my Case 444 all set up for winter work. I purchased
it in 1992 from a John Deere dealer so do not know anything about it's
history before then. He said that it had been traded in by someone from
Canada. I paid $1800 for it at that time and it came with a tiller,
snowcaster and mower. It was a bit neglected when I got it and needed
a lot TLC. The vibrations from that big one cylinder engine had shaken a
lot of things loose and the previous owner had not taken the time to
tighten things up. I have used it mostly for blowing snow and mowing. I
did build a log splitter for it too.
Several years ago I replaced the original hydraulic pump with a barns
brand pump that I got from Northern Tools. That pump has worked well for
me. About 1998 the connecting rod broke and I had the 14HP Kohler engine
overhauled at that time.
I live in North Dakota and there are not many of these Case garden
tractors in this area. About 2003 I began wondering about the continuing
availability of parts for this tractor. I was considering selling it and
getting one of the green ones since they are more common here. But
fortunately before doing that I did some searching on the Internet for
parts and information on the Case 444. I found my way to the Case Garden
Tractor Yahoo group and due to the wealth of information and support there
I was inspired to keep my Case 444 and in fact have now added a 446 and a
222 to my stable of Case garden tractors. My wife thinks I have gone a
little Case wacko. I will send some more pictures of those tractors and of
some modifications and attachments that I have made for my 444 later.
