Charlie Mazoch's tractor

I always like to keep my hands and brain busy. A lot of times I probably could purchase the product for less but just enjoy doing things from scratch. I talked my brother in law out of this 446 as it had been gathering rust in their yard for the last 12 years. He got it from another person and it was not crankable then. The tractor was a sad looking mess. I sandblasted all the metal parts and it's been primed and repainted to OEM colors. I put new seals into the rear unit and am rebuilding the mower deck with new bearings, belts. idlers, and blades. The deck was sand blasted and had a coat of inorganic zinc applied which is one step short of galvanizing.

For a living I do mostly electrical on portable computer controlled batch plants. I'm in the process of rewiring a plant now. I'll send a photo of a 5 x 6 foot j-box with 3 phase 400 amp 480 volt feed and the various motor starters.  In fact one of my customers is also Michigan based, WW Webber Inc. I do some mechanical work and enough welding to say I've been there and done that. In an earlier life I worked in a machine shop hence the lathe, vertical mill and drill press etc. I traded my old 1953 Chevy 2 door hardtop with a small block tricked out pretty awesome for the machine shop goodies and never looked back.

We have 12 acres as part of a 50 acre tract between Houston and San Antonio and enjoy the farm life on occasion. I usually manage to raise a good deer crop if the surrounding neighbors don't poach out of season.

I'm into electronics and ham radio also. The new computer here is a 3.4 GHz Intel Pentium 4 which is a speed demon. I have a lot of neat electronic test equipment and still dabble in the field.  My elmer is from Amherst, Ohio and we were in Uncle Sam's Navy together.

The plate is the dimensions I posted on the other site. So are all the other components. I've got an extra piece in the middle of the hitch that will probably be removed once the hydraulic tiller bugs are worked out.

I found a Cub Cadet tiller attachment in great shape for three hundred bucks locally and pounced upon it. The person has one more available and it looked as good.  International used a belt drive system. The extra support of said plate is visible in one of the photo's.

I kind of wish I'd used a 1 inch shaft and had one available but the 3/4 inch one will probably be fine. The lower links are fabricated from Cat 0 upper links of which I only used the ends. The upper link is category 0 also. The adjustable rods are 1/2 inch allthread and the stabilizer rod is 3/8 inch. The upper ends of the lift arms use a 1/2 inch hex head SAE bolt which has a shoulder machined on the head so the rod ends can swivel more. A spacer could have sufficed but I have a lathe available so why not. The lower ends just use a clevis. The lower arms have another short piece of strap welded to them with 3 holes so I can change ratio's of lift.

The Valve on the one side is for lift cylinder selection and on the other side I mounted a flow divider valve. The pump is a Barnes/ Haldex of .976 cu. in. displacement and puts up 15 gallons at 3600 rpm. This is best case and it's doubtful these flow rates can be achieved but it will be better than the original pumps GPM.  I machined it's flange shoulder from 3.250 to the SAE "AA" flange size just by clamping it into a vise on my vertical mill and using a boring tool rotated in reverse. I wanted a larger hydraulic flow and that's why this size pump was chosen.

The lower link on one side is stationary via the stabilizer and rod ends and the other has enough swing to attach any attachment. I already have a 26 gallon poly tank and electric pump as one attachment and plan on the wife riding through the pasture spraying individual cactus plants with Torodon. I've got a middle buster on order and have two others to make rows with.  I also got the 48 inch mower deck with the tractor. It has a new Onan too. This is going to be a farm horse for the small jobs. The bigger one's I reserve for the 1957 5 Star MM.

It seems to work "A" ok and turns at 170 rpm which is what the OEM one does.
